From 1 February 2027, all O category trailers must have GB Type Approval before they can be sold or used on roads in Great Britain. Applications take up to 6 weeks to process.

- Submit your application through the VCA portal.

- Do I need an account with the VCA to apply?
Yes, you’ll need an account with the VCA to use the digital portal. Guidance can be found on the portal sign in page
- Do I need GB Conformity of production clearance?
Yes, GB Conformity of production (CoP) clearance is required for GB type-approval. For more information, please see our GB CoP page on the VCA website.
- What are common reasons for delays to applications?
Applications are commonly delayed because the supporting documents are incomplete or insufficient. For more information, see the administrative guidance on the GB type approval webpage.
- Do I need to have my vehicle inspected or retested to gain GB type approval?
If you already hold the required evidence to demonstrate compliance to the requirements for GB type-approval, then further inspection is not required.
- How do I check application status?
Applications may take up to 6 weeks. We’re expecting an uplift in application volumes as we approach February, please avoid contacting our teams whilst the application is still within this time. Our teams will contact you if they need further information or have queries with your application.
